Oliver was initially called to the Bar in 2005 and worked for a firm of solicitors in Weymouth, as well as spending time at the Disability Law Service and Islington Law Centre in London.

Oliver qualified as a solicitor in 2007 and worked in Dorchester. He obtained higher rights of audience in all proceedings in 2009, before deciding to pursue his long held ambition of practising at the Bar.

As a barrister, Oliver has continued to undertake civil work as well as criminal and family matters. He has appeared in the Magistrates’ Court, the Youth Court, the Crown Court, the Family Proceedings Court and the High Court.

Oliver undertakes all types of family cases including Private Children matters, Public Law cases and ancillary relief. Oliver regularly acts in relation to all types of care proceedings including final hearing, adoption cases, ICO’s, EPO’s and section 38(6) applications. Oliver is predominately instructed to act for parents, but also is frequently instructed to act on behalf of the Guardian.

In addition to Oliver’s busy court practice, he undertakes a substantial amount of written work and will happily draft particulars of claim, defences, grounds of appeal and advise upon merits and quantum.

Outside of work Oliver is a trustee of Dorset People First, a self-advocacy charity for adults with learning difficulties. He is also a keen sailor and skier.
